The Scoop, London 15/08/12

Last week we were thrilled to play at the fabulous outdoor London amphitheatre venue, The Scoop near Towerbridge. Playing as part of a free London music and theatre festival and representing the EMI Music Sound Foundation, we were scheduled to perform 90 minutes of pop goodness, but a downpour before hand meant we had to start 45 minutes late (boo) and only do half of our planned tunes, ah well. Thank you to everyone who stopped by for a listen and those who came and bought CD’s. It was great to see some happy faces despite their wet bottoms as they enjoyed their lunch break! We hope to head back to London again soon :)

Saskia Says provided music for the wonderful party at the Imperial Gardens Bar, Cheltenham on Weds 23rd May. The sun was shining, the BBQ was going and the face-painters were about as we played a set of originals and covers. Photoraphy by Kristine Bondarenko from Dizzy Donkey Media.

Simple Things (May)

Simple things making me smile this month! Saskia x

OLD COUPLES HOLDING HANDS

Seeing this makes me happy any month, but it was a couple of weeks back I saw the sweetest old couple walking down the street holding hands and thought I’d have to add it to my simple things post this month. I’m such a romantic, I like to think that they’ve been together for decades.

UNEXPECTED HEATWAVES

Hello early summer heat! Wow, the last few days have been immense. I’m pretty much stuck inside all day but I love the chance to get the window open now and let the warm breeze and summer smells in. Plus, it means we get to gig outside now – bring on summer fetes, picnics, festivals and beer gardens! The Olympic Torch Relay was just the start, as we recently played at the Imperial Gardens in Cheltenham which was packed with people lazing about in the sunshine with friends and family. Bliss.

WATCHING FOREIGN TV SHOWS

Forget arty, subtitled, intellectual films or documentaries, I mean real foreign primetime trash! My man and I enjoyed a wonderful week in Greece this month (and whilst there were plenty of more cultural highlights – the food, sights, beaches, old towns, etc), watching a TV show ‘Hot or Not’ and only understanding two words, was a simple amusement. It’s like a talent show, but no talent is required, contestants just need to look appealing to the judges. Nice.

BEING CRAFTY

Last month it was cookery books, this month I’m really into DIY blogs and trying my hand at crafts. May has seen me bling up some leggings with jewels for my sister’s birthday and craft a ‘Saskia Says’ bunting banner using two £1 sets of party bunting and some paper – bargain! If you also like trying your hand at making things, I suggest Mr. Kate!

Ready to go… again.

I thought it was time for another quick update! Things have been a bit slow on the progress front over the last month, but after a week away I know I’m feeling really refreshed and with our bassist Ollie having finished uni (congrats) there should be no stopping us this summer! We’re excited to have a young manager on board with us too – we’ll introduce you to him on here once things become official – and meetings coming up to get our schedule for the next few months sorted. As well as our band meetings next week – where we hope to get started on plannig our own local summer one-day festival or similar – we’ve got a couple of great gigs to look forward to, an Olympic Torch gig on Wednesday (where we’ll be playing at Imperial Gardens, Cheltenham from 4pm) just before the Torch relay passes by and our support slot for Natalie Ross at Slaks on Friday night. Come along and say hello! We love to see familiar faces. Saskia x
